THE INSPIRATION
Based on the unique model of The Wynwood Yard, which has been operating since November 2015 in the Wynwood Arts District of Miami, Miami Beach City Commissioner Ricky Arriola approached the Yard founder Della Heiman and operator Ken Lyon to see if they had interest in creating a similar concept on an empty lot on Miami Beach’s North Beach neighborhood.
The commissioner envisioned that the activation of this empty lot would trigger a much-needed sense of community in this underserved neighborhood. His vision has become our mission.
NORTH BEACH YARD
North Beach Yard is an entrepreneurial hub and culinary incubator; a place where early stage start-ups can take advantage of nimble, lean and low cost approaches to launching new ventures. Our mission is to serve as a warm and welcoming community space that diverse people, from every walk of life, can call their own.
The North Beach Yard will act as a highly diverse, modernized community center featuring educational opportunities, fitness activities, a large array of food and beverage choices, shopping and entertainment all in one, central location.
With 35+ rotating small businesses employing over 200 people, and an estimated yearly attendance of over half a million, NBY is expected to be an economic engine for the neighborhood.
CULINARY RESIDENTS + RETAIL + EVENTS
A combination of 10 food trucks, a quick-service-plant-based restaurant, a casual café, and a full-service sit-down restaurant, all combine to give a wide range of food and beverage offerings. A grouping of 12 small market stalls will create an artisan-inspired food shopping experience for the local residents.
Mix in some traditional retail selling clothing, hand-crafted items, beach-based sundries, and a containerized fitness studio. A large, organic edible garden will feature seasonal herbs, vegetables and fruits. The harvested foods will be used in the restaurants on-site and sold in an on-site farm stand. The large astroturf lawn and stage will be set daily for live music, lectures, performances, projected movies, farmers markets and community festivals.
A full-service test kitchen will offer workshops and instructional classes in all types of cooking, plus arts and crafts, gardening, essential oil classes, painting, dance classes and food-based classes featuring food preservation, fermentation, and sauce making.
The daily events line up will offer classes, workshops, and entertainment to the public at low or no cost.
